Living in the critical zone
Earth’s critical zone is the zone of life, from the bedrock to the tops of the tree canopies. The critical zone is our home. Humans interact with ecosystems in numerous ways, but one of the greatest ways to inspire care for ecosystems is by encouraging people to get outside. We are more likely to stand up for, take action for, and protect the places we love, where we walk, bike, run, ski, swim, boat, and find direct connection to the planet. The intersection of recreation and ecology is as a place ripe for climate action, a community motivated to take collective steps toward changing our future. Soil, agriculture, and community
Soil is an important part of growing food and growing community. From 2017-2021 I served as a manager for the Common Ground Community Gardens in Lawrence, KS, where I helped develop garden and soils-related programming for neighborhood community gardens. During my experience with Common Ground, I coordinated with the Douglas County Extension and Just Food to develop activities that build community while benefiting local ecosystems.
